How to choose a support coordinator
A great support coordinator can transform how your NDIS plan works for you. A poor fit can leave you spinning your wheels. Here's how to choose well.
Ask about their caseload. A coordinator juggling 80+ participants will struggle to give yours the attention it needs. Twenty to forty is a healthier range.
Ask how they communicate. Phone, email, text, in-person? How quickly do they reply? Is there a backup contact when they're on leave?
Ask about local networks. A good Illawarra coordinator knows our providers, our therapists, our schools and our quirks. They should be able to name names.
Watch for red flags: pushing you toward providers they own or are linked to, vague answers about your plan budget, or pressure to sign service agreements quickly.
Finally — trust your gut. You should feel heard in your first conversation. If you don't, keep looking. There are excellent coordinators in our region.
